TEMERLOH: With only 10 days until the nomination day, it seems that Temerloh parliamentary constituency is among the hottest seats in Pahang when another candidate announced his intention to contest in the 14th general election (GE14), turning it into an interesting six-corner fight come May 9.
Isma Nazom Abdul Hamid, 52, a lecturer, was the latest to announce his candidacy on an independent ticket to contest for the Temerloh parliamentary seat and Kuala Semantan state seat.
Aware of the possibility of losing, Isma Nazom said that winning was not his ultimate goal when he decided to get involved in politics, instead, he wanted to see changes in the voters' political views.
"I know I will lose, but I still want to contest because this is the best time for me to change the mindset of the voters, we need new political views," he told Bernama here today.
Born in Temerloh, Isma Nazom, who holds a doctorate degree in Business Administration and a professional engineer, denied that he received sponsorship from anyone and his decision to contest was due to his intention to work with the people.
Following Isma Nazom's announcement, Temerloh parliamentary constituency will see candidates from the Barisan Nasional, PAS and Amanah, to fight it out among themselves as well as against three others on the independent tickets.
Besides Isma Nazom, other independent candidates were former TV3 broadcast journalist Mohd Khaidir Ahmad, 56, and former Temerloh district officer Datuk Abu Jamal Nordin, 62. — Bernama
