KUANTAN: Road users along Jalan Penor-Ubai here received an unpleasant surprise from a 100kg reticulated python early this morning.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Mohd Sani Harun said the 7m-long reptile was found at 2am by the road users.
"The reptile had injuries which we believe were caused after being hit by vehicles along the road.
"The road users notified us of the finding and we dispatched eight firemen from the Kuantan fire station to the scene," he said.
When fire personnel found the snake, it was slithering in a weak condition in a field near the road. They took about one hour to capture the creature, but could not release it into an uninhabited area due to its injuries.
"Our personnel had a tough time snaring it as the snake was too big and was quite aggressive," Mohd Sani said.
Upon treatment, it is expected to be handed over to the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan).
