GE14: Leave for fire and rescue personnel frozen from Saturday

KOTA KINABALU: All Fire and Rescue personnel nationwide will have their leave frozen in preparation for the 14th General Election (GE14), beginning this Saturday.
Fire and Rescue Department deputy director-general (operations) Datuk Soiman Jahid said the leave embargo would remain active till May 17.
"Besides having their leave frozen, all personnel and officers are also not allowed to go abroad, except in critical situations," he told reporters after officiating a fire and rescue related security seminar, here today.
He said about 12,000 firemen and officers stationed outside their polling areas would be voting via post in this general elections.
Meanwhile, Soiman said that to ensure the smooth running of GE14, the department had conducted security checks at all premises to be used during the election.
Commenting on the seminar, he said it was aimed at providing knowledge to industries closely related to fire and rescue matters, particularly in relation to disaster management. — Bernama
