Man gets 12-month jail for kicking, intimidating wife

PETALING JAYA: A man who kicked and criminally intimidated his wife over financial woes last Sunday was sentenced to 12 months' jail by the Magistrate's Court here today.
Magistrate Nurshahira Abdul Salim meted out the sentence on Mohd Malek Mohd Ghani, a 35-year-old despatch rider, after he pleaded guilty to both charges.
The man was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt to his wife, Maznah Ramli, 26, by kicking her left thigh at a house at Desa Mentari 3, Jalan 2D/1, Taman Medan here at 11.30pm on April 14.
He was also charged under Section 506 of the same Code for criminally intimidated his wife by saying the words "I'm heating the oil and I'll make you sorry for the rest of your life", on the same day and at the same time and place.
For the charge of causing hurt, Mohd Malek was sentenced to 12 months' jail, while for the criminal intimidation charge, he was sentenced to three months' in jail.
The court ordered him to serve the sentences concurrently from the date of his arrest on April 15.
Deputy public prosecutor Abu Arsalnaa Zainal Abidin prosecuted, while Mohd Malek was not represented. — Bernama
