KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit ended slightly lower against the US dollar today on the strengthening of the greenback despite firmer oil prices, said a dealer.
At 6pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.8890/8920 from 3.8880/8910 on Wednesday.
OANDA Head of Trading in Asia-Pacific, Stephen Innes, said there were not much changes in the value of the ringgit from yesterday's trading as the investors were getting nervous ahead of the 14th General Elections.
"Bond markets and fund inflows remain quiet. Investors will likely sit tight until the election results are final or decisive polling numbers come in before re-engaging the Malaysia capital markets," said Innes.
The ringgit ended mostly lower against a basket of major currencies except the yen.
It eased against the Singapore dollar to 2.9694/9728 from 2.9648/9677 on Wednesday. It, however, appreciated against the yen to 3.6214/6252 from 3.6242/6273 yesterday.
The ringgit weakened against the British pound to 5.5204/5263 from 5.5151/5209 yesterday and vis-a-vis the euro, it fell to 4.8103/8144 from 4.8067/8112 on Wednesday. — Bernama
