Cop held over alleged rape of maid who sought his help

JOHOR BARU: A policeman was arrested after he allegedly raped an Indonesian woman who came to the police for help following her "issues" with her employer.
She was allegedly raped by the 30-year-old policeman attached to Skudai police station at a hotel along Jalan Belimbing in Senai here on Tuesday.
The drama unfolded when the victim, 24, a maid, wanted to quit her job and did not want to work under her current employer.
She approached a friend, who is a local, and her friend had suggested to her to lodge a police report at Skudai police station to retrieve her passport from her employer.
Sources said, when the victim reached the police station on Tuesday at 1am, a policeman offered to follow her to the employer's house in Bukit Indah to retrieve her passport.
As they were on their way to the employer's house, the victim claimed that the policeman stopped at a budget hotel and tried to solicit sex from her by threatening not to take to her employer's house to retrieve her passport if she did not give in to his demands.
In fear, the woman relented and was taken to the budget hotel where she claimed she was raped.
She lodged a police report at the Senai district police headquarters on the same day.
The policeman, was subsequently arrested.
Police have dispatched a forensic team to examine the scene of the incident and police are checking if he had any disciplinary problems.
Investigators have also screened through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage at the hotel and confirmed that both individuals involved in the incident were there at the time of the incident.
The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.
