KEPALA BATAS: Penang PAS has asked for a chance to serve voters in the "Pearl of the Orient" state as it remains the only party who is principled enough to fight both Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.
At a ceremony to formally unveil its candidates in Pongsu Seribu here, its state Information head Mohd Yusni Piah said that its Islamic teachings have embolden the party to speak and practice the truth.
"We are not afraid of any party as we are principled. We stand for the truth and even if they are our friends, we will condemn them if we deemed that they are wrong."
PAS determination to contest here is likely to confirm that majority of the 40 state and 13 parliament seats in Penang would be multiple cornered fights.
By midnight, PAS is expected to announce that it plans to contest 18 state and six parliament seats here.
Among those expected to be fielded are state PAS commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff, state Youth wing head Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden and state PAS secretary Iszuree Ibrahim.
In the last election, PAS only won the Permatang Pasir state seat under its former state PAS commissioner Datuk Mohd Salleh Man, who is likely to retire from politics.
The Islamist party's main opponent is its splinter party — Parti Amanah Negara.
Some of the candidates are also expected to come from its supporters club council and other associates under the Gagasan Sejahtera alliance.
However, not seen at the ceremony was Parti Cinta Malaysia, whose famous member is Datuk Huan Cheng Guan, the former Gerakan vice-president.
The party was supposed to be a key member of the Gagasan here.
