Reckless driving case involving death of marathon runner postponed

KLANG: The hearing of a reckless driving case, which had subsequently led to the death of ultra-marathon runner Evelyn Ang, has been postponed.
The magistrate's court here fixed May 22 for a final case management before it proceeds with the trial.
Magistrates Roslizi Sulaiman fixed the date following the defence counsel's request to review a close-circuit television (CCTV) footage, which was submitted as evidence.
On Feb 20, Teoh Thiam Lim, 27, was charged with reckless and dangerous driving under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
He was accused of committing the offence in a Proton Iswara car at 4.30am on Dec 10, 2017 at Mile 2, Jalan Kapar.
However, Ang who sustained a critical skull injury, fell into a coma and died on March 1 without regaining consciousness.
On March 9, Teoh pleaded not guilty to an amended charge under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
Under the amended charge, he faces a jail term of between two and 10 years or a fine of between RM5,000 and RM20,000 if found guilty.
Last Dec 10, Ang and two other runners were hit by a driver at 4.30am at the 14km mark during the Klang City International Marathon 2017.
Ang reportedly suffered a skull fracture with bleeding in her brain, while the two others — Amiruddin Hamid and fellow pacer Ahmad Hadafi Jus — sustained minor injuries.
