Election extension by ROS doesn't affect Umno: Nur Jazlan

JOHOR BARU: The decision of the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to extend the Umno election is not an issue for Umno as a legitimate party, according to caretaker Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed.
He said the extension was based on the party constitution.
"RoS has approved the extension period based on the current Umno constitution. So there is no issue that Umno is an illegal party and so on," he told reporters after meeting with the Tiong Hua (Chinese) community at Taman Bukit Kempas, here today.
Nur Jazlan was commenting on the action of sixteen Umno members who had filed leave for a judicial review to challenge the legality of the party yesterday.
He said the matter was different from PPBM, which was temporarily suspended by the RoS for failure to submit the minutes of its branch, divisional and central meetings as well as the financial statements.
He added that under the Umno constitution, the membership of any of its members who brought the party to the court would be automatically terminated. — Bernama
