IPOH: The magistrate's court here today ordered a police station chief with the rank of ASP and four of his men to be remanded for five days for allegedly accepting a bribe of RM3,000 relating to a drug case.
The remand order was issued by Magistrate Kasyfurahman Abang Ahmad following the application from Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer, R. Kumuthambal.
All the suspects, aged between 26 and 39, are believed to have accepted the bribe as an inducement not to take legal action for a drug offence in an operation here last night.
The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe received or RM10,000, whichever is higher. — Bernama
