BAGAN DATUK: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today advised young electors voting for the first time to support the Barisan Nasional in the general election on May 9 to ensure continuity of the national development agenda.
The Deputy Prime Minister said they should not get influenced by the accusations of the opposition which wanted to misguide them.
He said the generation to be shaped over the next 32 years in accordance with the National Transformation 2050 (TN50) should give the BN candidates the opportunity to ensure implementation of the agenda.
"The young electors should support the BN parliamentary and state candidates taking into consideration the commitment of the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak) in the face of the opposition challenges.
"Do not take heed of the accusations of the opposition which wants to topple the existing leadership," he said when speaking at the Negaraku Youth Carnival at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Muara here.
Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun and Malaysian Youth Council president Muammar Ghadafi Jamal Jamaluddin were also present at the event.
Ahmad Zahid, who is BN deputy chairman, said the BN manifesto launched by Najib, as the BN chairman, promised to improve the well-being of the people.
"However, the opposition will try to destroy the BN plans and we have no choice but to support the BN," he said.
Ahmad Zahid said the BN had achieved 99.4% success in the implementation of its promises made in the manifesto for GE13.
Meanwhile, Khairul Azwan, in his speech, said the two-day carnival offered the young people in Bagan Datuk about 1,000 jobs through 30 exhibitors comprising government agencies and government-linked companies.
He said the carnival had been held over the past four years to help enhance the living standard of the young people, particularly in the rural areas. — Bernama
