KUALA LUMPUR: Federal Territory Barisan Nasional (FT BN) today announced its candidates for all 13 parliamentary seats in Federal Territory featuring a combination of old and new faces including three MCA women candidates for the 14th general election.
The line-up of FT BN comprised six new faces, three incumbents and two renominated candidates and two local grassroots leaders to take on the challenge in their respective seats.
From the six new faces, three were from Wanita MCA namely Tan Ean Ean for Bukit Bintang, Heng Sinn Yee (Cheras) and Chan Quin Er (Seputeh).
The other new faces are Adnan Abu Seman (Umno-Bandar Tun Razak) , Ong Siang Liang (Gerakan-Kepong) and Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan (MyPPP-Segambut).
The FT BN list was announced by its secretary Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar during the launch of FT BN Manifesto themed "People's Aspirations Our Agenda" and the letters of appointment were presented by BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor in Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) here.
Tengku Adnan who is FT BN chairman and Federal Territories Minister will defend the Putrajaya parliamentary seat for the fourth term (2004, 2008, 2013 & 2018).
Titiwangsa Umno division head and Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Labuan Umno head Datuk Rozman Isli will defend their Titiwangsa and Labuan parliamentary seats respectively.
Political figures who are making a comeback in their former respectively seats are Tan Sri Zulhasnan Rafique, a former cabinet minister and Malaysian Ambassador to US (Umno-Setiawangsa) and Wangsa Maju MCA division head Datuk Seri Yeow Teong Look (MCA-Wangsa Maju).
Zulhasnan was Setiawangsa MP for two terms after winning the seat in the 11th and 12th general election.
Yeow won the Wangsa Maju parliamentary seat in 2004.
Commenting further, Tengku Adnan said the candidates featured this time were in line with the requests and aspirations of grassroots voters.
Taking the example of Zulhasnan, who is once again contesting in Setiawangsa, he said the reselection of the Malaysian Ambassador to US was due to the grassroots request.
"After carrying out an analysis, we found Zulhasnan has the edge. He won the seat in GE12 and did not stand in GE13. This does not mean Ahmad Fauzi did not do his job but we want a bigger win in Setiawangsa," he added.
He said the choice of Raja Nong Chik was based on his performance to continue serving the people in Lembah Pantai, even though he was not the elected representative there.
"I am calling on voters in the Federal Territories to chose the candidates who could assist them, so choose the people they could rely on for assistance," he stated. — Bernama
