Guan Eng's announcement of candidates as cabinet members is an act of arrogance: Hishammuddin

KLUANG: The action by DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng in announcing two of his party's parliamentary candidates as potential cabinet ministers if Pakatan Harapan (PH) wins the 14th General Election (GE14) is described as arrogant and disrespectful of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said in doing so, it also showed that DAP was the "big brother" in PH, despite the pact having agreed to have Dr Mahathir as the prime minister, should they come to power.
"As we know, the selection of cabinet members is the prerogative of the prime minister. If Dr Mahathir is the dreaming to be the prime minister again, (then) it should not be Lim Guan Eng to decide on the cabinet.
"My question to Lim, if he really wants Dr Mahathir as prime minister, why did he made the announcement on who should be in the cabinet," he said.
Hishammuddin, who is caretaker Defence Minister and the incumbent Sembrong Member of Parliament, told reporters this at a programme with members of the People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) in Pekan Kahang, here today.
He also expressed doubts on the agreement between Dr Mahathir and DAP with Lim making such an announcement.
"I want to ask Dr Mahathir, is the agreement between him and DAP true. If he is sincere, Lim Guan Eng would not have made the announcement," he added.
Lim had announced that Perak DAP chairman Nga Kor Ming and Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong, fielded to contest the Teluk Intan parliamentary seat in Perak and the Ayer Hitam seat in Johor, respectively, were potential cabinet members if they win the seats and if PH wins the general election.
Meanwhile, Hishammuddin said the development agenda for the constituents of Sembrong was not an empty promise by Barisan Nasional (BN) as claimed by the opposition.
This, he said, was proven with the various projects, involving housing, education, security and health, carried out in the constituency by the BN government.
On Rela, Hishammuddin said the members should play their role to counter the slander hurled by the opposition against the government. — Bernama
