KUALA LUMPUR: Umno's Datuk Rizalman Mokhtar (pix), who was a favourite for the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat before a young lawyer was named as candidate today, considers it a matter of the past.
Refusing to dwell over the issue, the Umno Bandar Tun Razak division chief said he accepted Barisan Nasional's (BN) decision to field first-timer, Persiaran Kilang Umno Youth leader Adnan Abu Seman for the seat.
"I have closed the book over the candidacy matter," he told reporters after the announcement of Federal Territories BN candidates for the 14th General Election (GE14), here, today.
Rizalman had been widely tipped to contest in the Bandar Tun Razak seat, a traditional MCA seat, until his arrest earlier in a drug bust. He was later cleared after a second test on him came out negative.
Adnan said his candidacy came as a surprise, acknowledging that he had not foreseen himself being picked by BN to contest in the hot Bandar Tun Razak seat.
"However, we have to be confident that we can win this seat in the coming GE," he said, adding that BN's chances of wresting the seat from Pakatan Harapan is strong.
"The first time I went to the ground recently to meet with the BN machinery for this seat, I found that the support is quite strong and positive."
