KUALA LUMPUR: Caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak has lambasted the opposition for spreading fake news about the implementation of the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) for foreign vehicles entering Malaysia.
Najib said the spread of the fake news was a malicious act aimed at instigating hate against the government.
"How long do they want to lie to the people? Enough is enough #fakenews," he tweeted tonight.
Earlier today, the Road Transport Department in a statement also denied the viral news which stated that the VEP would be implemented from May 1.
The department said the VEP system was still being tested and validated to ensure stability and adequacy before it could be fully enforced.
The RTD also urged the public not to believe any claims by irresponsible parties and that any information pertaining to the enforcement of the VEP system can be obtained from http://vep.jpj.gov.my/#/about. — Bernama
