Hannah Yeoh appalled by condition of roads in Segambut (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: Hannah Yeoh, the DAP candidate for the Segambut parliamentary seat, has expressed dismay at the condition of the roads in the constituency.
She also took the Federal Territory Ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to task for the way developments are carried out in the area.
Speaking to the press at the Election Commission office here today, the former Subang Jaya assemblywoman said the local plan for the area had yet to be gazetted.
"The two most different contradictions to me coming from Selangor … the first thing is how the (local) plan here is not gazetted yet," said Yeoh.
"In Selangor, we have a local plan that is gazetted, so the government cannot simply do anything it wishes.
"There is a process before you want to develop anything you'll have to go through the process - even to turn a plot of kawasan lapang (open space) to a community hall, you would have to go through months of public hearing and (through) the consultation process from the stakeholders.
"Here, it's like lawlessness, I'm running in Segambut (and) we all know the Taman Rimba Kiara situation, residents in TTDI have briefed me."
When asked to clarify the term "lawlessness", she said: "(The) lawlessness in KL especially in how the Federal Territory Ministry and DBKL are handling development proposals openly, touching open space or green area with no regard to affected stakeholders."
She said she would highlight the need for transparency on expenditure and services under DBKL.
She dismissed when asked if the contest for the Segambut seat would be an uphill battle as it is an urban area.
Present with her was Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, who would contest in the Kepong parliamentary seat. Incumbents Teresa Kok, Tan Kok Wai and Fong Kui Lun will defend their respective parliamentary seats of Seputeh, Cheras and Bukit Bintang.
The MPs were there to place their deposits under the PKR banner.
Earlier, Yeoh joined Subang Jaya DAP candidate Michelle Ng at the launch of the Gurdwara Sahib in Subang Jaya.
Ng, 28, the DAP legal bureau secretary, has been chosen to stand in the seat previously held by Yeoh.
