JOHOR BARU: Immigration counters at both Malaysia-Singapore entry points in the state will be operating at maximum capacity for three days from May 8 to 10, in conjunction with the 14th General Election (GE14).
Caretaker Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said this would enable Malaysians working in Singapore to return to cast their votes on May 9.
He stressed that the traffic congestion at both the Sultan Iskandar Customs Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) and Sultan Abu Bakar CIQ complex in Tuas should not be an excuse for the voters to blame the government.
"If they really are responsible citizens, take leave and return to vote, don't go blaming the government for the traffic congestion.
"What is important is that the government will ensure that the Immigration Department will be operating at maximum capacity on those dates. But of course, traffic congestion is inevitable if everyone returns at the same time," he told reporters after the "Sentuhan Rakyat" sale programme, here today. — Bernama
