SHAH ALAM: Kota Permai Golf & Country Club (KPGCC) finally lifted the curtains on the highly anticipated Golf Wing on Thursday, after almost a year-long closure which saw major renovations and upgrading works undertaken to the original structure.
The reveal was witnessed by high-ranking Gamuda officials, namely Executive Director Datuk Goon Heng Wah and Corporate Development Director KC Goh, club management, members of the media, club sponsors and event partners, committee members as well as the contractors, architects and designers involved in the project.
Renovation works which commenced in mid-July last year reached completion at the end of March, and presented the Club with a price tag of approximately RM13.5 million. Featuring an interior design concept of "Tropical Elegance", the total overall expansion measured 7,265ft² with main areas enjoying the extensions being ones that would benefit golfers the most.
The key areas include the male and female changing rooms plus the golfers' starting point. Of these, significant upgrades can be seen in the former amenities with the male changing room size increased to 6,975ft² from its original 4,036ft² and the female changing room from 1,905ft² to 2,314ft².
In terms of locker numbers, male golfers now have 280 lockers (previously 257) and female golfers 122 lockers (previously 88). As for shower cubicles, male golfers now have a whopping 41 units from their previous 16, and females 12 from their previous 8 units.
Other key highlights include three VIP rooms (i.e. two rooms for four pax and one room for two pax), a new fully-covered golfers' starting point, two new storage rooms for event organisers and a new locker access card system.
Making their debut at the upgraded facility are two new air-conditioned waiting lounges i.e. one located at the golf registration and the other at the male changing room.
The extensive project was a joint effort between various parties contracted by the Club i.e. Hicom Gamuda (Developer), Lim Hoo Seng Construction Sdn. Bhd. (main contractor), In Strike Sdn. Bhd. (ID contractor), Garis Architects Sdn. Bhd. (architects), Zaidun Leeng Sdn. Bhd. (engineering consultant) and Design Tone Sdn. Bhd. (ID consultant).
"As a town maker, Gamuda Land understands that a town is primarily made up of the community, so our design and planning principles focus on community interaction and bringing people together," said Tang Meng Loon, Director of Club Operations & Townships.
"The same principles were applied in the design, planning and execution of refurbishment works to our Golf Wing. We wanted to create a personality for the Club so that all our patrons – be it members or guests, get a strong sense of belonging and want to be a part of the Kota Permai family.
"Our intention of wanting to create top notch amenities and provide an excellent service structure has finally come to fruition. Our key highlights focus on the changing rooms and we believe that the design configuration is truly one of a kind, particularly considering that we can now comfortably host a multitude of golfers over such a large area plus the increase of lockers is a welcome bonus.
"We are now ready to host any international golfing spectacle, as we believe that our world-class facility is well-equipped to handle the magnitude of such events and pose a unique experience once paired with our award-winning golf course."
The significant event began with VIPs participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony, after which a lion dance performance saw the lions visiting the entire facility for the traditional auspicious blessing, followed by a tour for attending media personnel, sponsors and event partners. After lunch, a networking golf game was held and a dinner cum prize presentation ceremony concluded the day's proceedings.
