KUALA LUMPUR: Police have released a photofit of the gunmen believed to be involved in the killing of 35-year-old Palestinian lecturer Fadi M. R. Albatsh on Saturday morning in Setapak here.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the photo fit was also released to other authorities, including the Immigration Department, at the exit points of the country.
He was, however, unable to confirm if the suspects were still in the country.
"The suspects' features were gleaned by our experts based on the descriptions provided by witnesses. I can't reveal much about them as they are aiding our probe," he said after attending a rank pinning and Malaysian Service Medal ceremony at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) here today.
Mohamad Fuzi added the two suspects were believed to be either Middle Easterners or Europeans.
"The suspects are well-built, about 180cm tall, have fair complexion, and they have beards. One of them has a long beard on his chin," he said.
He also pointed out that both were seen wearing dark jackets and carried backpacks on their high-powered motorcycles (BMW GS and Kawasaki Versys) during the incident.
Mohamad Fuzi added the forensics' findings so far revealed that Albatsh, who is an electrical engineer and lecturer, suffered 14 gunshot wounds.
"He died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head and torso. The 14 bullets recovered by forensics will be sent to our weapons experts to ascertain the weapon used by the hitmen," he said.
He also assured there are no threats against the families of the deceased and city police have been instructed to address any concerns that should arise.
Mohamad Fuzi added that police might record a statement from the victim's brother, Dr Rami Albatsh, who arrived in Malaysia yesterday, if necessary.
Anyone with information especially those who were in the vicinity prior to the incident around 5am to 7am is urged to contact investigating officer, ASP Shahrizal Salleh at 017-7134705.
On Saturday, Albatsh stepped out of the compound of the Idaman Puteri condominiums on Jalan Meranti at about 6am, and was walking towards a nearby surau when he was waylaid by two men on a motorcycle.
A hail of bullets rang out moments later, killing the Palestinian on the spot.
It was reported that his family has accused Israel's Mossad spy agency of being behind the killing. However, Israel had issued a statement denying its involvement.
