Teng believes Pakatan will prevail in Selangor

SELANGOR senior executive councillor Datuk Teng Chang Khim believes Pakatan Harapan (PH) will continue to govern the state after the 14th general election (GE14) although it may lose a few seats in the polls.
"The most we will lose is six seats," he told Sin Chew Daily in an interview published today.
Teng, who will defend his Bandar Baru Klang (formerly Sungai Pinang) seat, is confident DAP will retain all 15 seats it now holds but is not certain of its chances in the newly created constituency of Dusun Tua, which will be contested by newbie Edry Faizal Yusof.
The few seats PH may lose are likely to be the Malay-majority constituencies north of Port Klang, he added.
He considered the electoral boundary redelineation that favours Barisan Nasional (BN) a bigger threat to PH than PAS's spoiler role.
"We (PH's predecessor Pakatan Rakyat) won 44 seats in GE13. Minus the six seats we might lose, we still have 38 seats.
"Even if we lose 10 seats, we still can form the next government with 34 seats."
Selangor has 56 and at least 29 seats are needed to form a simple-majority government.
On the chances of PAS, which is contesting 20 parliamentary and 47 state seats, Teng opined that support for the Islamic party is now at its lowest as not only is it shunned by the non-Malays, its Malay votes are also split.
PAS's influence has receded to just the seats north of Port Klang, he added.
"PAS's main aim of contesting the election is to reduce PH's votes to benefit BN so that it can (hope to) form a coalition government with Umno after the polls.
"I believe PAS will not win any seats south of Port Klang. It might even lose its base camp in Gombak, given the inroads made by (caretaker) Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali in the area," he said.
On MCA and Gerakan, Teng said the two parties will have an uphill task to try to break their duck as 90% of their local leaders have been "hibernating" over the last five years.
