No last minute changes in Kedah BN list
ALOR STAR: There were no last minute changes in the list of Kedah Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates for the upcoming 14th general election (GE14), said Kedah BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
"There is no change in the candidates list, all the candidates were chosen and approved by (caretaker) Prime Minister and BN chairman Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak himself," he said during a press conference after the Kedah BN candidates GE14 announcement at his official residence in Seri Mentaloon near here today.
Ahmad Bashah was responding to a question from reporters on whether there was a slight change in the candidate list announced by him.
Prior to the announcement, a different set of candidates list was circulated on social media with former state executive councillor Datuk Md Rawi Md Hamid said to have been picked to contest in a parliamentary seat in GE14.
The Langkawi-born politician will, however, defend his state seat in Ayer Hangat while Nor Saidi Nayan, the incumbent for Kuah assemblyman, will defend his state constituency.
Najib's political secretary Datuk Ghazali Ibrahim, whose name was on the circulated list, was not named as a candidate.
Ahmad Bashah added although there was some lobbying before the announcement, the final decision was solely by the prime minister.
Kedah has 36 state seats, with 21 held by BN while PAS has seven, PKR four, DAP two; Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and Amanah one each.
