Voters to decide the future of nation: MCA

PETALING JAYA: Voters will have a monumental decision to make on election day whether they want the return to the "bad old days" under Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad or move forward into a new era under Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak, said MCA publicity spokesman Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker.
He said if the voters want change they have to decide what type of change but doing it just for the sake of opting for something new will not benefit the nation.
"Mahathir's 22 years of rule was rife with cronyism and bailouts, if the voters choose to turn their back on Barisan Nasional (BN) there is a strong possibility of returning to the bad old days," he said.
He pointed out that under Najib there has been no cronyism.
Ti said today, Najib has been walking the talk by taking the moderate path and has been very accommodating to all, regardless of race or religion.
He added that Najib has been doing what he thinks is best for the nation and the people as a whole despite facing some opposition from certain factions within his own party.
"DAP and PKR had been against Mahathir during his 22 years but today for the sake of getting to Putrajaya they are willing to become bedfellows with their "enemy"," Ti told The Sun.
He said DAP has bent backwards to accommodate Mahathir and his supporters.
He pointed out that they (DAP) had abandoned their principles just to help Mahathir plot the downfall of a serving Prime Minister.
"If they can do such a thing, can such a party be trusted by the voters especially the Chinese community to look after their interest when they are in power.
"It looks more like DAP is only looking after its own interest not those of the voters," the MCA publicity spokesman said.
Ti said it was only under Najib that 27 services sub-sectors and of the financial services sector were liberalised and no such thing happened under the stewardship of Mahathir.
He added with the liberalisation, no 30% Bumiputera equity condition would be imposed on health and social services, tourism, transport, business, computer and related services.
He said this will help develop the economy and attract more young entrepreneurs.
Ti urged the voters to look at the changes Najib has brought to the nation as a whole, which is more stable, open and liberal compared to under Mathathir where there was such thing.
