KUALA LUMPUR: The 7th edition of World Youth Jazz Festival, a gathering of jazz musicians from Malaysia, Indonesia, Poland, Philippines, Bangladesh, Germany and the United States will be back from May 4.
Jazz bands, Newsound, Low Flowinder, Return of The Waves, Formula, Indro's Jazz Muda, Four Corners, Ray Infante Trio, Emiko and Magnitudo are among the groups which will perform at the three-day festival at two venues, the Star Hill and the DBKL Auditorium.
Organising chairman, Datuk Nik A. Azmi said apart from reviving the jazz music genre, the festival was also a platform to create new world talents.
He said one of the young jazz talents who made it big in the music world was Indonesian jazz prodigy, Joey Alexander who began performing at the festival since he was eight, adding that he had gone international and earned his first Grammy nomination in 2015 for Best Improvised Jazz Solo at the 58th Grammy Awards.
The festival, he noted, was not only a platform for the youth to showcase their jazz talents but also a venue for jazz musicians and lovers to integrate, collaborate, interact and network.
"This festival is a platform to create new world talents ... we are bringing in talents worldwide and the youth can learn from the pros," Nik told Bernama here today. — Bernama
