SHAH ALAM: PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man will contest in the Kubang Kerian parliamentary seat, party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has announced.
He also confirmed that Hashim Jasin, who replaced the late Datuk Dr Haron Din as the party's new spiritual leader in October 2016, would be the parliamentary candidate for the Arau seat, a seat Haron had contested on three occasions but lost.
Abdul Hadi made the announcement at the party's "Ceramah Perdana Jelajah Presiden PAS" in the presence of some 2,000 PAS supporters, here, late on Tuesday night.
Tuan Ibrahim, who contested and lost in the Jengka state seat in Pahang in the previous general election, will replace incumbent Kubang Kerian MP Ahmad Baihaki Atiqullah, also from PAS.
He is set to take on Kubang Kerian Umno head Datuk Seri Mohamad Abdul Ghani and a candidate from PAS splinter party Amanah, who is yet to be announced.
The Kubang Kerian seat in Kelantan is said to be a safe seat for PAS, with Ahmad Baihaki winning by a majority of over 16,000 votes against Barisan Nasional's Anuar Safian in the 2013 General Election.
The seat had previously been contested and won by some of PAS' top guns, namely Mohamad Sabu, Husam Musa and Salahuddin Ayub, all of whom are now with Amanah.
At the event, Selangor PAS commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi also announced the candidates for two parliamentary and four state seats to be contested by PAS allies in the Gagasan Sejahtera coalition.
