Police inspector detained over alleged bribe soliciting

SHAH ALAM: A police officer with the rank of inspector was arrested by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly abusing his power to solicit and receive a bribe of RM7,000 from a man under police investigation.
According to a MACC source, the 31-year-old officer who is attached to the Serdang District Police Headquarters (IPD) was detained at the IPD at about 8.45pm last night.
"The man was under police investigation after a report was lodged stating that he had threatened his girlfriend.
"However the police officer concerned was believed to have taken advantage of the case and demanded a RM7,000 bribe for not taking action against the man involved," said the source here today.
Meanwhile, Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect would be remanded to facilitate investigation under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009. — Bernama
