Calling all 16-year-old science students!

26 Apr 2018 / 23:11 H.

THE annual National Science Challenge (NSC) is open for registration. In its 19th year now, student participants can expect a series of exciting challenges that will test their knowledge and application of Science, technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
The NSC is managed by the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM). The ExxonMobil Subsidiaries in Malaysia has been a huge and loyal supporter of this competition since 2012 in its endeavour to develop the nation's human capital, especially in the area of STEM.
Schools are urged to encourage their students to participate. They can register as many teams, each consisting of three students and one mentor teacher. The preliminary round kicks off on May 21 and poses an online quiz. The best five teams, including a wild card team comprising the top three individual scorers from each state, will progress to compete at state level.
Top teams from each state will then compete at the Semi Finals, this year, conceptualised as an eight-day residential science camp hosted by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia at its campus in Skudai, Johor. Only four teams will advance to the Grand Finals in Kuala Lumpur. Their gray matter will be put to the test via an interactive science quiz comprising four different categories – Individual, Video, Open and Project Presentation.
Besides bragging rights, the champs get to take home the Prime Minister's Challenge Trophy and get to participate in an exclusive one-week study trip to Stockholm, Sweden. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity includes a chance to attend and be part of crowd at the prestigious Nobel Prize Awards ceremony and observe Nobel Lectures. Second, third and fourth-placed teams will be glad to know they are not left out and have another fantastic opportunity filled with amazing experiences to expand their knowledge on science and technology. Hint: You'll also need to take to the skies!
Find out more exciting details and sign up at www.nsc.my/participant before May 20.
