KUALA LUMPUR: The country's public transportation system is set to be transformed with the introduction of electric-powered taxis, the first in the world for right-hand drive vehicles.
Big Blue Taxi Facilities (Big Blue) in collaboration with Fieldman EV Sdn Bhd are taking the initiative to make a difference to Malaysian taxi service by delivering 20,000 units of the vehicle for taxi drivers registered under Big Blue around Kuala Lumpur by 2020.
Big Blue Service founder and adviser Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail said two experts on engines from China arrived yesterday to study on the needs of the electric vehicles (EV) which would be made to adapt to road, environment and temperature conditions in the country.
"This electric vehicle has unique features just like the iconic black taxis in London which can bring modernity to the taxi scene," he told a press conference here.
He said RM200 million was invested to implement the project and government grants would be given to taxi drivers registered under Big Blue.
The electric vehicle is capable of travelling up to 400km from a single charge and will be equipped with special facilities for the comfort of drivers and passengers. — Bernama
