JOHOR BARU: The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, today conferred the Darjah Mulia Sultan Ibrahim Johor (DMIJ) which carries the title Datin Paduka on a voluntary worker, Sabariah Hussein.
Also receiving the award was Johor State Financial Officer A. Rahim Nin, which in his case, carries the title Datuk.
The investiture ceremony was held at Balai Mengadap, Istana Bukit Serene, here today.
Also present at the ceremony were the Permaisuri of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah; the Tunku Panglima of Johor, Tunku Abdul Rahman; and Johor State Secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani.
Sabariah, 71, also fondly known as Sister Sabria, was born in Wadihana here, and is an active volunteer in Montreal, Canada.
She has been involved in welfare work to help the homeless and less fortunate individuals for more than 20 years.
Sabariah migrated after marrying a Canadian and completing her culinary studies in Kuala Lumpur.
She has also set up a Sister Sabria Foundation and a home for women called 'Our Second Home', with a large portion of the proceeds obtained from the sale of food in mosque areas on Friday in the country.
Meanwhile, A. Rahim, 57, was appointed as Johor State Financial Officer on Oct 20 last year to take over from Mohd Nasir Abd Salam, who retired on the same date.
A. Rahim was previously Johor Baru Mayor in August 2015 after serving as State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) director. — Bernama
