Ku Nan: BN will act against those who stand as independent candidates

KUALA LUMPUR: Any member of Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties that contest as an independent candidate in the coming 14th General Election (GE14) will face disciplinary action.
BN secretary general, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, said he was keeping a close watch on the situation.
He said if BN component party members contest as either independent candidates or representatives for other parties, BN will take action against them.
Umno Supreme Council member and Batu Pahat division chief Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi had earlier implied he would stand as an independent in Batu Pahat after he was dropped as a candidate by Umno.
He was critical of the selection process, describing the system of picking candidates as being broken.
It was announced that the division's Wanita chief Harliza Abdullah would take his place.
Mohd Puad had lost the seat in the previous general election to PKR's Mohd Idris Jusi.
Rumours also abound that sacked MyPPP president Tan Sri M. Kayveas would stand as an independent in Cameron Highlands, which he dismissed.
Asked about the sacking of Kayveas, Tengku Adnan said he had asked all component parties to resolve their internal problems before the general election.
"As Barisan secretary-general. I sent a letter to all component parties to resolve their internal problems. If there were problems we advised MyPPP to take disciplinary action against members who had violated the party's constitution," he told reporters, after handing over money under the National Education Scheme to 225 students who had achieved excellent results in UPSR, PT3 and SPM last year.
MyPPP was thrown into turmoil on Wednesday after its supreme council endorsed the disciplinary committee's decision to sack Kayveas.
Its secretary-general, Datuk K. Mohan, said the committee had met on Tuesday after receiving a letter from Tengku Adnan asking them to take disciplinary action against their president.
He said the decision to sack Kayveas had already taken place before they received an official letter from Kayveas stating that he had resigned from all posts in the party.
