Our staff not involved in fraudulent insurance claims: Puspakom

PETALING JAYA: Puspakom has refuted allegations that its staff were involved in a syndicate making false insurance claims amounting to RM2.9 million.
In a statement today, Puspakom said all the checks and inspection involving vehicles were done in accordance with existing laws and rules.
Puspakom was commenting on a recent case where police detained at least eight individuals under Ops Lejang PIAM 2018 following a police report lodged on March 14.
Police realised something was not right after the Gombak CID team found that many false reports of cars being stolen were lodged since 2016.
Among the 10 suspects detained was the 34-year-old mastermind from Kampung Baru Subang, Selangor and his right hand man, a 30-year-old from Sungai Buloh.
The syndicate members would first approach car owners who had outstanding instalment payments.
The modus operandi was to make false police reports on the theft or loss of vehicles before making a claim with the insurance company.
The vehicle would then be re-registered and resold with the help of several 'networks' within the authorities.
"The authorities have always monitored vehicle's insurance claims, status of lost vehicles. Such roles are outside the jurisdiction of Puspakom because we do not have the access to information or data of the vehicle which was reported missing and being brought to Puspakom for the purpose of inspection," the statement read.
Puspakom further pointed out that its personnel were not part of syndicate members arrested by the police.
"Our personnel are not involved in any of the police's questioning and investigation," it said.
