ALOR STAR: Action should be taken swiftly against those spreading lies under the newly gazetted Anti-Fake News law, according to Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.
He said the Opposition parties had been going all out to discredit BN candidates during the campaigning period and would continue to dupe voters until polling day.
"Even before the announcement of candidates they told voters that Election Commission (EC) would try to rig the elections," Mahdzir said at a press conference after groundbreaking ceremony of fully residential boarding schools (SBP) Padang Terap near Bukit Gedong, here today.
"When they lose in the GE14, they will say that it is EC who caused them to lose, it's a mind-setting tactic by the opposition."
Earlier, Mahadzir officiated at the ground-breaking ceremony of Padang Terap full-board schools (SBP) worth RM116.4 million.
The SBP secondary school will be built in a public private partnership (PPP) with the private sector, involving a 24.21-acre land swap.
The school will have 30-person classroom, hostel blocks that can accommodate 750 students, science and ICT labs, a multi-purpose hall, a multi-purpose court and administration blocks.
The school will also have a contemporary 21st century design with completion estimated to be three years from now.
Mahadzir added that the ministry was also in the process of acquiring another 16 acres of land next to the site for future expansion of the school.
