KUANTAN: MIC Youth chief, Datuk C. Sivarraajh, nominated by Barisan Nasional (BN) to contest the Cameron Highlands parliamentary seat, hopes MyPPP will help him defend the seat in the 14th General Election (GE14).
He said this was because the public knew that the seat was also coveted by the former MyPPP president, Tan Sri M. Kayveas to the extent of triggering problems in the party which led to the latter's sacking.
He said he was thankful to the BN leadership for the spirit of camaraderie in giving the candidacy to the MIC.
"But after being announced as the candidate, I hope they (MyPPP) can help me to win the seat with a bigger majority," he told Bernama after the announcement and handing over of the electoral candidacy letters for GE14 here today.
He said he was also aware that it was going to be an uphill battle for him because the seat was considered a 'hot' seat, thus demanding that he worked harder to ensure BN received the support of voters.
In GE13, Datuk Seri G. Palanivel, who was former MIC president, won the Cameron Highlands seat with a narrow majority of 462 votes in a four-corner fight.
The media had previously reported that Kayveas was eyeing the seat but the BN's top leadership decided that the seat is contested by MIC.
The subsequent crisis saw Kayveas sacked from MyPPP effective yesterday, after the party's disciplinary committee found he was abusing his position in the party for personal gain, said MyPPP's secretary-general Mohan Kandasamy. — Bernama
