KUALA LUMPUR: Caretaker Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali will defend his Bukit Antarabangsa state seat against his four other contenders, including his younger brother, local celebrity Mohamed Azwan Ali in the 14th general election.
Besides Azwan, the seat will also be contested by Barisan Nasional candidate from Umno, Salwa Yunus, PAS candidate Syarifah Hazlizah Syed Ariffin and Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) candidate Ahmad Kamarudin.
However, Azmin, a PKR candidate, was not present at the nomination centre in Dewan Dato Ahmad Razali, here, but was represented by his proposer Alizan Isa who submitted his papers.
In the five-corner fight, Azwan is contesting as an independent candidate, with the picture of an elephant as his logo.
Azmin has been the incumbent in the state constituency since 2008, and in GE13, won with a majority of 4,734 votes.
Returning officer for Ampang parliamentary constituency Abdul Hamid Hussain announced the names of the candidates.
More than 1,000 supporters of various parties were present to show their support for their candidates.
Azwan, who had previously been very vocal in his criticism of Azmin, told reporters he would be more civil in his campaign and not launch personal attacks on his brother.
"I am here to serve the people of Bukit Antarabangsa. My manifesto clearly shows the people are my top priority. On Azmin, I have closed that book.
"I have many campaigns and strategies to win the hearts of the people here, and one way is I am giving away about 50,000 packets of the rendang dish to the people in this constituency," he said. — Bernama
