KUALA BERANG: Datuk Seri Jailani Johari (pix) is not a candidate in the 14th general election, but he arrived early at the Hulu Terengganu District Council square to support the Barisan Nasional candidates today.
The Hulu Terengganu Umno Division chief's arrival was greeted with a thunderous applause from the close to 12,000 BN supporters gathered there as early as 7am.
The Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister, attired in the BN blue, was a picture of calm as he spent about 40 minutes over breakfast with the BN supporters and the five BN candidates, giving words of encouragement to the supporters as well as members of the party election machinery.
Jailani was making his appearance for the first time since the announcement of the BN candidates for the Terengganu seats on April 22 by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman.
The Hulu Terengganu seat that he held in the last parliament is to be contested by Datuk Rosol Wahid who was the state assemblyman for Ajil from 1999 to 2013. In GE13, Jailani garnered 31,940 votes to beat Kamaruzaman Abdullah of PAS by a majority of 8,213 votes.
Besides Rosol, the four BN candidates contesting state seats who were present were Datuk Tengku Putera Tengku Awang (Kuala Berang), Dr Ghazali Taib (Ajil), Datuk Rozi Mamat (Telemong) and Yusof Awang Hitam ( Manir). — Bernama
