KUCHING: The Bandar Kuching parliamentary constituency is expected to see a close fight in the 14th General Election (GE14), which will see BN candidate Kho Teck Wan, trying to wrest the seat being held by DAP, who are fielding new face Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen in a straight tussle.
Previously, Bandar Kuching was represented for three terms by Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen, who has switched to the Stampin parliamentary seat, and despite Kho conceding that it is a DAP stronghold, she said: "A fight is a fight, even if it is a close fight".
Kho said she would fight to end within the BN team for the sake of a "A strong Sarawak," and the BN team would not stop in its efforts to fight for the fate of the people, regardless of which ever seat, in the towns or in the interior areas.
"In this GE14, ensure that the victory is in favour of BN, give me the opportunity to prove my sincerity to transform Bandar Kuching towards a better direction. We are fighting for our rights peacefully and without any chaos, the general election should run smoothly, this is my policy and initiative," said the 42-year-old BN new face when met after the nomination at the Kuching South City Municipal Council (MBKS) community hall, here today.
Kho Teck Wan (BN-SUPP) was present to hand over her nomination form at 9.05am together with Tan Jit Kie (proposer) and Lau Thian Kin (seconder).
Earlier DAP candidate, Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, 31, was present at the nomination centre at 9.03am together with Violet Yong Wei Wei (proposer) and Alexandar Goh Leng Kung (seconder) shortly after it opened at 9am.
The nomination papers were handed over to Election Commission returning officer for the Bandar Kuching parliamentary constituency, Tay Guan Huat. — Bernama
