ISKANDAR PUTERI: DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said the objective of the 14th General Election (GE14) is to set Malaysia free.
"The GE is a golden opportunity for Malaysians to change the prime minister," Lim said after the nomination process at the Iskandar Puteri nomination centre this morning.
Returning officer Adib Azhari Daud announced that Lim is in a straight fight in defending the Gelang Patah parliamentary seat, which has been renamed Iskandar Puteri.
Lim, 77, will face Jason Teoh Siew Hock, 39, the Gelang Patah MCA chief.
There were about 2,500 Barisan Nasional and 1,500 Pakatan Harapan supporters outside the nomination centre this morning.
A total of 306 police personnel were deployed in the area.
Lim stated he has been in 12 general elections, including this upcoming one.
"This is the first time I am contesting under the PKR logo," he added.
He said the DAP decision not to use its iconic rocket logo in GE14 but to use PKR's logo as a common Pakatan Harapan (PH) logo is to send a message to all Malaysians to make sacrifices irrespective of race, religion and even political party affiliation, to unite as one to vote in PH for change.
"Johor is no more a fixed deposit state, but a front-line state for political change," he added.
Meanwhile, Teoh said he is full of confidence in this battle as he believes the people will support him.
The two state seats under the Iskandar Puteri constituency will see DAP's Tan Hong Pin, 37, taking on S. Kanan a/l G. Suppiyah, 53, who is Johor MIC deputy chairman in Skudai.
Meanwhile, Gelang Patah Umno chief Mohammad Khairi A. Malik will contest in the Kota Iskandar (formerly known as Nusajaya) state seat.
He will face Dzulkefly Ahmad, 52, of Parti Amanah Negara, and PAS Gelang Patah division chief Sallehuddin Mohd Dahiran, 51.
Khairi Malik, 51, is political secretary to caretaker Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
The Iskandar Puteri parliamentary constituency has about 138,000 voters.
In the 2013 general election, BN's Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Othman, the then-Johor mentri besar lost the seat to Lim, who won by a 14,762-vote majority.
