LANGKAWI: The majority of some 70 parliament and state seats in Kedah and Penang will see multi-cornered fights following the close of nominations earlier today.
Some of the candidates such as Pakatan Harapan's (PH) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng have left their respective nomination centres to start campaigning.
Mahathir plans to grace a wedding while Lim will meet with his strategic advisers on charting the course ahead for PH in Penang.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Ratu Mansor became the first fisherman in Langkawi to make history when he passed the nomination to become a candidate for the Kuah state seat.
He would square off against the incumbent Nor Saidi Nanyan from Barisan Nasional (BN), Mohammad Firdaus Ahmad from PKR and Mazlan Ahmad from PAS.
In Permatang Pauh, PH's candidate Nurul Izzah Anwar will also be facing a three-cornered fight.
Meanwhile, the crowds at certain constituencies were bigger for PH compared to BN, namely in Permatang Pauh and Langkawi.
