KUALA LUMPUR: As nomination opened at 9am today across the country for the 14th General Election, the police reported that the process was going on orderly.
Checks conducted by Bernama at several nomination centres nationwide found the supporters of the various political parties abiding by the rules set by the Election Commission and the police.
Several roads near nomination centres in Kuala Lumpur were closed and traffic diverted to provide for easy access to the centres for the candidates and their supporters.
Kuala Lumpur Police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim had said previously that 2,693 policemen would be deployed around the city and Putrajaya to ensure smooth nomination.
The police had also announced that a total of 79,000 policemen from various departments and units would be deployed around the country to ensure security during GE14, polling for which is on May 9. — Bernama
