KUALA LUMPUR: The Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat is a three-cornered contest involving the Barisan Nasional (BN), PKR and PAS in the 14th General Election on May 9.
BN candidate, Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, who was federal territories and urban wellbeing minister in the 13th Parliament, is re-nominated to wrest back the seat from PKR after losing to Nurul Izzah Anuar with a majority of 1,847 votes in the GE13.
Raja Nong Chik is being challenged by PKR Communications director Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil who is replacing Nurul Izzah who is contesting the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat, and Fauzi Abu Bakar of PAS.
Lembah Pantai returning officer Ab Salim Mansor announced the candidates for the parliamentary seat at 11.10am at the nomination centre in the Bukit Bandaraya Community Centre.
Raja Nong Chik said BN had the opportunity to wrest back the seat if he was not smeared with accusations.
"Defamation element was the main cause of my defeat in the last (general) election. I hope everyone can keep the competition clean without defamation and focus on what we can contribute to the people," he said.
According to the Election Commission's record, 10,250 early voters in the parliamentary constituency will cast their ballots on May 5 while a total of 70,061 voters are eligible to vote on May 9. — Bernama
