Zambry will face PKR-Amanah, PAS candidates in Lumut

LUMUT: Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, contesting for the first time for the Lumut parliamentary seat, will be challenged by candidates from PKR-Amanah and PAS in the 14th General Election (GE14).
In the three-cornered fight, Zambry, who was mentri besar in the previous Parliament, will face Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli (PKR-Amanah), who last held the Kuala Krai parliamentary seat in Kelantan, and Mohammed Zamri Ibrahim (PAS).
Lumut parliamentary returning officer Mohd Helmi Arifin confirmed the nominations of Zambry, Mohd Hatta and Mohammed Zamri at 12.22pm at the Mara Skills Institute's (IKM) Dewan Mohd Anuar here today.
Earlier, Zambry arrived at the nomination centre about 8.30am, accompanied by wife, Datin Seri Saripah Zulkifli and about 5,000 supporters before submitting his nomination form at 9.01am.
Born in Pulau Pangkor, Perak, Zambry, 56, will contest in both the parliamentary and state seats in the general election.
In the last general election, the Lumut parliamentary seat saw former transport minister Tan Sri Kong Cho Ha (BN-MCA) lose to Mohamad Imran Abd Hamid (PKR) with a 8,168-vote majority.
For the GE14 on May 9, Zambry, incumbent of the Pangkor state seat for three terms, will face Zainal Abidin Saad (PAS) and Nordin Ahmad Ismail (PKR-PPBM) for the seat.
In the last general election, Zambry defeated Mohd Saifullah Mohd Zulkifli (PKR) and J. Bernard Parenpa (Independent) with a 5,124-vote majority.
Meanwhile, the Pasir Panjang state seat will witness a three-cornered fight involving incumbent Datuk Rashidi Ibrahim (BN-Umno), Rohawati Abidin (PAS) and Yahaya Mat Nor (PKR-Amanah).
The Lumut parliamentary constituency has 67,157 voters, and of the total, 42,402 are in Pasir Panjang and another 24,755 in Pangkor state seats, respectively. — Bernama
