JELI: The Jeli Hospital here needs at least two specialist doctors to enable it to provide better service for the people in the district, said caretaker International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.
He said he had written a letter to the Health Ministry seeking the placement of specialist doctors at the hospital.
"Currently, there is no specialist doctor at the hospital, but specialist doctors from Tanah Merah and Kota Baru come to the hospital twice a week to help.
"Hence, we want permanent specialist doctors to be placed at the hospital, other wise the hospitals' service will be affected," he told reporters after handing over an ambulance to the hospital here today.
Also present was Jeli Hospital director Dr Norzilawati Mohd Ghazali.
Mustapa, who is Kelantan Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, said the caretaker federal government had approved an allocation of RM15 million to build a district health office in Jeli.
"This shows the (caretaker) government's concern for the people," he said.
Mustapa is defending the Jeli parliamentary seat at the Air Lanas state seat in the 14th general election. — Bernama
