Nik Omar not as influential as Tok Guru: PAS

KOTA BARU: The nomination of former PAS spiritual leader, the late Kelantan mentri besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Bik Mat's son, Nik Omar, as PKR-Amanah candidate in the 14th General Election (GE14), does not have a huge impact on PAS, according to Kelantan PAS secretary Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi.
This, he said, was because Nik Omar, who is contesting the Chempaka state seat, a PAS stronghold, does not have much influence on the people, unlike his father, who won the seat with a majority of 6,500 votes in the 13th general election in 2013.
"We are confident Chempaka will remain a PAS stronghold because we don't see Nik Omar as influential as his late father and the Tok Guru (Nik Abdul Aziz) himself, prior to his death, warned anyone against messing with this (PAS-led state) goverment.
"So, anyone who do not heed the late Nik Aziz's 's advice will not go far," he told a media conference at the Kelantan PAS headquarters, here today.
Yesterday, PAS sacked Nik Omar, who is Nik Aziz's second son, for contesting the Chempaka state seat as a PKR-Amanah candidate this election.
He will be in a three-cornered fight against Mohamed Fareez Noor Amran of Barisan Nasional (BN) and incumbent Ahmad Fathan Mahmood @ Mahamad of PAS for the Chempaka state seat.
Ahmad Fathan won the seat in a by-election held following the death of Nik Abdul Aziz in 2015.
On PAS' strategy to defend the Chempaka state seat, Che Abdullah said the party would engage in a healthy contest by offering the best for the people in the constituency.
"It's up to the voters to choose which candidate is the better one, but we will not insult our opponents nor link them to any families," he added. — Bernama
