Bursa Malaysia opens slightly lower

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened slightly lower this morning, taking cue from the flattish performance of Wall Street last Friday.
At 9.05am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was traded at 1,863.07, down 0.40 of-a-point from Friday's close of 1,863.47.
The index opened 2.63 points weaker at 1,860.84.
On the broader market, gainers, however, led losers 104 to 70, while 117 counters were unchanged, 1,621 untraded and 74 others suspended.
Volume stood at 45.79 million units valued at RM24.03 million.
In a note today, Public Bank Investment Bank Bhd said Asian bourses, including Bursa Malaysia, are set for a cautious start on Monday on the back of the muted closing of US stocks in Friday's session and despite strong earnings data.
Among heavyweights, Tenaga lost four sen to RM15.82, CIMB was three sen lower at RM7.22, while Maybank added two sen to RM10.78, Public Bank bagged 12 sen to RM23.72 and Petronas Chemicals rose five sen to RM8.52.
For actives, Iris inched down half-a-sen to 16.5 sen, TH Heavy eased one sen to 6.5 sen, while AirAsia gained half-a-sen to 38.5 sen.
Netgram and Pansar were unchanged at 6.5 sen and RM1.25 respectively.
KLK topped the losers list in easing 32 sen to RM25.20, while KESM was the top gainer, increasing 54 sen to RM16.46.
The FBM Emas Index was 0.27-of-a-point easier at 12,988.46, the FBMT 100 Index trimmed 1.51 points to 12,805.42, the FBM Emas Syariah Index decreased 11.93 points to 13,116.86 and the FBM Ace fell 9.78 points to 5,299.35.
The FBM 70 rose 2.39 points to 15,408.44.
Sector-wise, the Plantation Index gave up 17.65 points to 7,959.59, but the Industrial Index ticked up 0.06 of-a- point to 3,210.63 and the Finance Index was 30.79 points higher at 18,306.69.
The physical price of gold as at 9.30am stood at RM161.41 per gramme, up RM1.03 from RM160.38 at 5.00pm last Friday. — Bernama
