KOTA BARU: MCA's sole candidate Chua Hock Kuan, who is contesting in the Kota Lama state seat in the 14th general election (GE14), is reaching out to the voters through the empowerment of the young and veterans as his main vision.
The 38-year-old MCA Youth Sports Bureau chairman said he proposed that a closed complex be built for these two groups to carry out various sports and cultural activities if he is given the mandate to represent the PAS-held constituency.
"I started approaching the voters since 2016 after being sent by MCA to help in this constituency. The 11-day campaigning period is a week of revision for me as most of them know me.
"I also don't use such approaches as attacking the other contenders but will raise various issues such as garbage problems, clogged drains and other matters," he told reporters after a gathering with the Chinese community at Kampung Limau Manis here last night.
Tasked with wresting the seat for the BN, Chua said he was confident the Chinese community in Kota Lama was increasingly warming towards the MCA through their support and acceptance of the party.
In GE14, Chua will be challenged by incumbent Datuk Anuar Tan Abdullah (PAS), Tan Sri Ab Rashid Ab Rahman (PKR-PPBM), Khairul Nizam Abd Ghani (PSM) and Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary (Independent) in a five-cornered fight. — Bernama
