MALACCA: Meet the woman responsible for the success of the country's first Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) in Malacca, that received praises from the public for facilitating the services for the people under one roof, Siti Aisyah Mahmood.
In Siti Aisyah's capable hands, the centre located at Jalan Hang Tuah here, which houses 49 government and private agencies, has been providing the best services to the people from 8.30am to 10pm daily.
Siti Aisyah, who took over as Malacca UTC's manager since March 2016, said her appointment was a sign of the caretaker government's trust and confidence in women.
"I accept this as a responsibility to prove that women are also capable of carrying out the task. Instead of treating it as an added stress, turn it into a motivation to succeed," she told Bernama.
The Malacca UTC, costing RM20 million, was officiated by caretaker Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak on June 23, 2012, and until now, has provided various facilities and services to more than 14.8 million Malaysians.
Originally from Bachang here, Siti Aisyah, 38, who, prior to her current job at the Malacca UTC, has gained various working experiences including being a sales executive and sales advisor in several automotive companies.
"To administer UTC, the staff at this centre need to have a high patriotic spirit to ensure that all government services, initiatives and programmes will give maximum benefits to the people," she said.
Siti Aisyah, a mother of a seven-year-old boy, speaking as a woman, said she really appreciated the services, sacrifices and roles of women, not just in developing family institutions, but also contributing to the country's development.
"Women need to equip themselves with knowledge and self-esteem to prepare themselves to develop this country, alongside the men.
"UTC, for instance, has become the pride of Malaysia as not only that several countries want to follow our footsteps, the World Bank has also expressed interest to carry out a study on how it can be implemented in the developing countries," she said. — Bernama
