REMBAU: Barisan Nasional (BN) Youth chairman Khairy Jamaluddin today confirmed that he has served a writ of summons on PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli for defaming him and caretaker Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
Khairy said it was aimed at proving to the people that he and Mohamad, who is also Negri Sembilan BN and Umno chairman, were innocent.
"I dared to serve the writ of summons on Rafizi because I know I'm right and that Mohamad and I are innocent. We will take the matter to court," he said after joining the people in dodol-making programme in Kampung Stesyen here today.
Rafizi had previously accused Khairy of conspiring with Mohamad to influence the Election Commission's (EC) decision in preventing PKR candidate for Rantau state seat Dr S. Streram from entering the nomination centre to file his papers for the 14th General Election on April 28.
Khairy, who is defending his Rembau parliamentary seat, said he believed that the issue was purposely played by the opposition merely to fish for votes.
Returning officer Amino Agos Suyub duly declared Mohamad as the winner of the Rantau state seat in Rembau parliamentary constituency, which he has held since 2004, after his sole challenger Streram was barred from entering the nomination centre for not bringing his candidate pass as required by the EC. — Bernama
