Razali: Focusing solely on Malays may backfire for Pakatan

MUAR: Barisan Nasional's (BN) Datuk Seri Razali Ibrahim believes Pakatan Harapan's (PH) strategy to focus on winning the Malay support in the elections will only come back to bite them come polling day on May 9.
Claiming that the opposition was taking things for granted, the BN Muar candidate said ignoring the Chinese voters, especially in the constituency, and assuming they would vote for them was a huge mistake on their part.
Razali said just because the minority group gave their full support to PH in the previous two elections, that did not mean the same would happen in coming polls.
"What makes them think the Chinese will give them 100% like last time. They go to Malay areas because they assume the Chinese will vote for them.
"But the fact that they didn't go and see the Chinese, assuming that they will give their full support in the elections, is a big mistake.
"If you remember in 2004, the Chinese community was with BN. Then they shifted (to the opposition). So what makes you think they will not come back?" he told reporters after a ceramah, here, late last night.
The opposition has traditionally banked on Chinese voters and those in the urban and youth areas for support in the previous elections, making up the majority of their popular votes in the 13th General Election (GE13).
When asked about his chances of defending his Muar seat, Razali said he would only focus his efforts on his machinery and campaigning, and that he was "not interested in predicting any outcome".
"Rather than assuming and predicting (the result of the elections), why don't I work? Because if you work hard enough, you may get that result," he said.
Razali, who won the last elections by a majority of 1,646 votes against PKR's Nor Hizwan Ahmad for the Muar seat, will face PH's Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman and PAS' Abdul Aziz Talib in a three-cornered fight in this GE14.
