SEPANG: Vehicles parked haphazardly in the vicinity of KL International (KLIA) and klia2 will be towed away, said Selangor police chief Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor.
Mazlan said police had to resort to this action as warnings and summonses seemed to have fallen on deaf ears.
Police have issued 16,574 summonses from the beginning of the year, for various offences including illegal parking.
"Illegal parking scored the highest traffic-related offence with 14,711 cases recorded from the beginning of the year.
"In January, 5,231 traffic summonses were issued followed by 4,186 in February, March (4,134) and April (3,023) which totalled 16,574 summonses," Mazlan told reporters at the KLIA police headquarters after attending an enforcement briefing between the police, KLIA & KLIA2 enforcement department.
Also present at the event was Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) managing director, Datuk Badlisham Ghazali.
Mazlan said illegal parking makes up at least 89% of the traffic offences committed by the road users.
"MAHB has provided us with a tow truck which will be handled by the KLIA district police headquarters. We will monitor the traffic with the vehicle provided and we will get tough by towing if there are still motorists parking haphazardly, without any regard for the safety of others," stressed Mazlan.
