SUNGAI PETANI: More pictures of Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and jailed PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim were cut out from posters at several locations in Kuala Muda, in a special operation conducted by Election Commission (EC) enforcement officers.
theSun team covering the 14th general election (GE14) stumbled upon an EC vehicle at one of the main roads here.
The midnight operation was assisted by a team from the Sungai Petani Municipal Council (MPSP) .
On Monday, a picture of Mahathir was also cut out by EC enforcement officers from a billboard in Ayer Hitam, Johor.
In another incident in Penang, a poster of Mahathir on a billboard at Sungai Ara was removed on Wednesday.
Mahathir's image with jailed PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Bayan Baru PKR incumbent Sim Tze Tzin had gone missing after it was put up three days ago by PH members.
The EC had last week announced several new regulations for the election period, where only images of the president and the deputy of a particular party could appear on campaign materials alongside the candidates.
The EC enforcement officers then went to a place at Tikam Batu where they instructed a man believed to be an Umno member to dismantle a campaign tent which was set up near SMK Sungai Pasir.
"It is an offence to set up the tent within 50m from the voting centre," said an officer believed to be in charge of the operation.
Flags belonging to PAS and BN near the school were also removed.
