PUTRAJAYA: Opposition leader Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be giving a special address to the nation from Langkawi at 10pm on Tuesday, the eve of polling day.
He said Pakatan Harapan (PH) aims to reach out to at least 10 million voters via a live broadcast through his official Facebook account.
"PH ceramah (programmes) in all the parliamentary constituencies will take pause to televise the speech," he told reporters at the Perdana Foundation, here today.
Also present was Bersatu Youth chief and PH's candidate for the Muar parliament seat, Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
Claiming that the PH ceramah events which he has participated in to date have reached an estimated two million people, Mahathir warned that the Barisan Nasional (BN) will now think of ways to suppress PH's latest effort of reaching the voters.
"That has been the way of the BN government," Mahathir claimed.
He said an example was the cutting out of his photos on PH's election campaign posters by the Election Commission, which he sees as a sign of fear towards him.
"We are going to make full use of the social media and reach 10 million voters on that day," he stated.
Mahathir said the campaigning, which reached the halfway mark today, has shown "mounting interest" due to the huge crowds that swelled up to 40,000 people at certain places.
"Before parliament was dissolved we would expect four to five thousand people, but now the figures have gone up to 20,000, 25,000 and in Kuantan, there were 40,000 people who came.
"This is amazing despite various attempt by the authorities to restrict us from holding campaigns by giving us small spaces to conduct them," he said.
When asked about his campaigning endeavours, Mahathir said he was not letting up anytime soon.
"In Kuantan, I spoke for one hour. Before, I used to speak for one hour because I was young, now I'm old, but I can still speak for one hour.
"I would like to find any other 93-year-old who is willing to speak for one hour," he quipped.
During the press conference, when he paused to cough before having a sip of water, Mahathir was also quizzed on his health.
"My cough would strangely stop whenever I am giving speeches on stages nationwide.
"It is very tiring but still I survived. I can even answer your questions. Can you imagine that?" he said.
Mahathir also clarified his exact age saying: "I would be 93 on July 10. Please attend my birthday."
